Job Description
The Bryn Mawr School has an immediate position opening for a full-time, 12-month, Maintenance Technician. The Maintenance Technician is a key team member of the Operations Department. The Operations Department is responsible for maintaining all aspects of Bryn Mawrs buildings and grounds. Bryn Mawrs campus size is approximately 25 acres with 22 buildings. As a member of the Operations team, you will be responsible for completing various building maintenance tasks as assigned to you by the Senior Facilities Technician, and the Director of Operations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute campus work orders.
- Work orders are primarily assigned by the Senior Facilities Technician and Director of Operations.
- Work orders consist of various building maintenance tasks or light construction tasks such as but not limited to:
- Painting, furniture repair, equipment repair, installing window blinds, installing whiteboards, installing shelving, repairing doors and door hardware, various carpentry tasks, light construction renovation type projects, light plumbing repairs, light electrical repairs, light demolition, and other tasks as required to maintain a safe and operational school campus at all times.
- Use maintenance software (School Dude) to track progress and status of tasks. All work performed must be logged and updated daily.
- Assist in executing routine preventative maintenance at buildings on campus. The Senior Facilities Technician manages and schedules all routine maintenance. You will be given various routine responsibilities to manage, execute, and report status.
- Assist in maintaining campus equipment to ensure Bryn Mawr facilities are operating at their highest potential.
- Assist in campus use set-up and break-down.
- Bryn Mawrs campus is frequently used for campus related events. The Operations Team is responsible for setting up and breaking down temporary equipment and facilities for all events. The Campus Use Coordinator will assign campus use work orders.
- Assist in campus snow and ice removal to ensure clear and safe walkways, roadways, driveways, parking lots and steps. Note, this responsibility is mandatory of all members in the Operations Department. We are required to report to work during snowy weather.
- Maintain and clean all school issued tools and equipment as needed.
- Assist in directing campus traffic as needed or requested by the Director of Operations or Director of Security.
- Review and report any building, grounds, and/or equipment deficiency or needs.
- Review, inspect, and fix (if able) appliances.
- May be required to secure buildings against vandalism, lock and unlock doors, turn off lights, and generally patrol buildings and grounds.
- Work with the Senior Facilities Technician, Grounds Manager, and/or Director of Operations on various Buildings and Grounds maintenance or improvement projects as directed.
Primary Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Construction or maintenance experience is preferred.
- Ability to work well in a team environment as well as individually.
- Ability and knowledge of use at general hand and power tools.
- General light landscaping / grounds knowledge.
- Ability to safely work in an occupied school campus.
- Willingness to work in-doors and out-doors year-round.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
- Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
- Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of school.
- Must be able to report to work as Directed by the Director of Operations when it snows for snow removal.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with general computer software such as email or Microsoft Suite (excel or word).
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operation and repair of equipment.
- Have a cooperative personality, exhibiting willingness to work and be a part of a team.
- Must take initiative to see each assignment to completion.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage daily workload tasks.
- Must pass both State and Federal background checks, along with a Previous Employment History Review regarding workplaces with minors.
- Must complete MD state fingerprinting requirement.
- State issued drivers license.
- Ability to operate a pick-up truck, van, tractor, utility cart and other motor-driven vehicles on campus.
- Must wear Bryn Mawr School-issued uniform and maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
