HonorVet Technologies is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Vero Beach, Florida.

Unit Description – Intermediate Care Unit (ICC / ICU Stepdown)
Type of Care:
- The Intermediate Care Unit provides critical and progressive level care for patients requiring close hemodynamic and respiratory monitoring but not full ICU-level interventions.
- Functions as a bridge between ICU and telemetry , caring for patients recovering from acute, surgical, and cardiac events who still require advanced monitoring and specialized nursing interventions.
- Focused on stabilizing complex medical, cardiac, and post-operative patients , preventing complications, and promoting safe transition to lower levels of care.
Patient Population:
- Adult and geriatric patients with multi-system conditions including cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and renal complications.
- Common diagnoses include acute respiratory failure, sepsis, post-cardiac procedures, CHF exacerbation, renal failure, and stroke .
Shift & Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays.
- Floating required to ICU or Stepdown units based on census.
- Call coverage may be required per departmental need.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive monitoring and management for high-acuity patients requiring continuous cardiac and respiratory support.
- Perform advanced assessments and interventions for hemodynamic stability, titration of vasoactive drips, and ventilator support.
- Manage central and arterial lines , administer blood products, and monitor invasive pressure readings (CVP, ART).
- Care for patients on mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy in collaboration with respiratory therapy.
- Interpret and respond to dysrhythmias, ABGs, and changes in clinical condition.
- Provide emergency response during codes and rapid responses.
- Administer sedation, paralytics, and titratable IV infusions (cardiac and vasoactive).
- Document accurately and timely in Epic EMR ; communicate using SBAR format for safe handoffs.
- Collaborate closely with intensivists, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary teams for optimal outcomes.
Skills & Procedures:
- Cardiac: Rhythm interpretation, post-cardiac cath care, TAVR, sheath management, and post-cardiac surgery stabilization.
- IV Therapy: Central/arterial line management, blood product administration, and IV titration.
- Ventilation: Management of ventilated and tracheostomy patients, suctioning (ETT/NT), and ABG interpretation.
- Neurology: Post-craniotomy, EVD management, lumbar drains, stroke protocol, and hypothermia management.
- Renal: CVVHD/CRRT and acute renal failure management.
- Emergency: Rapid response/code blue management and emergency medication administration.
- Infection Control: Strict adherence to PPE, isolation precautions, and wound care with VAC therapy.
Certifications Required:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS (preferred or required per facility policy)
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 1.5 years of recent ICU or Intermediate Care experience required.
- Must be proficient in cardiac and ventilator management, titration of drips, and invasive line care.
- First-time travelers accepted if clinically strong in critical care.
Systems & Equipment:
- Medication System: Pyxis
- Documentation: Epic
- Communication: SBAR
- Monitoring: Bedside and remote telemetry, invasive pressure monitoring systems.
Provider & Department Support:
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist and intensivist coverage.
- Full interdisciplinary support including respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and rapid response teams.
Facility Details:
- Location: Cleveland Clinic Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach, FL
- Facility Type: Acute Care / Teaching Hospital
- Scrubs: Provided (color designated by facility)
- Orientation: 40 hours standard
- Float Requirement: Must float to similar acuity units within critical care scope.

- Maintain advanced competency in critical care skills and emergency response.
- Demonstrate effective prioritization, collaboration, and communication in a high-acuity environment.
- Adhere to Cleveland Clinic’s standards for safety, evidence-based practice, and compassionate care.
Other Information:
- Guaranteed hours per contract.
- RTO must be declared at submission.
- Unit supports first-time travelers with proven ICU or stepdown experience.
