Job Description

The Sr Electrical Designer should possess the skills, experience, and knowledge to create construction ready electrical drawings. They should be able to provide technical expertise and mentorship to the design staff in support of the Project & Engineering Management Team . This position reports directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager at the current time and will assist other engineering and design positions as needed to effectively coordinate design and quality practices. The successful candidate is required to exhibit excellent communication abilities, technical proficiency, proactive & positive discipline leadership and a continuous pursuit of safety while in the office and performing field observations. The Sr Electrical Designer is expected to maintain and continually seek improvement of their skillset. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of electrical systems, layouts, and schematics for various industrial or commercial projects.
  • Produce accurate and detailed AutoCAD drawings, including plans, diagrams, and electrical system details that facilitate a smooth construction process.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and other team members to ensure designs meet project requirements, technical specifications, and constructability.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers, sharing expertise and fostering skill development.
  • Perform design calculations and evaluations to ensure the safety and efficiency of electrical systems.
  • Develop design standards, template, and blocks to improve productivity.
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure design goals are met.
  • Participate in internal and external design reviews, offering constructive feedback.
  • Manage the creation and timely delivery of electrical design packages and documentation.
  • Ensure designs are completed on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Be willing to travel up to 10% of the time for site visits and client meetings.

Business Development

  • Provides technical support to the Business Development Team, as needed.
  • Generates labor estimates, deliverable lists, technical & commercial qualifications.
  • Coordinates proposed design concepts with other engineering disciplines and proposal staff.
  • Constantly promotes the Company and capitalizes upon opportunities to capture work.

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in drafting and/or 15 + years of experience in design related position.
  • 5 + years of supervisory experience and promotion of talent
  • Balance workloads of multiple projects within multiple timelines.
  • Literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Teams at a minimum) and use of company provided equipment.
  • Ability to listen, speak, read, and review verbal & written communication clearly and distinctly.
  • Able to understand and solve problems strategically.
  • Willingness to travel as required for project development (less than 10% is normal)
  • Physically able to traverse client sites to conduct walkdowns including, but not limited to, climbing ladders and stairs, work outdoors at client sites in all weather conditions.
  • Legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings, Spartan and client-specific background checks, and annual motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company and client policies.
