Job Description

Description All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children's National Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. Children's National supports the development of RN relationships within the community, specifically those related to the health and well-being of the community at large. Qualifications Minimum Education BSN from an approved nursing school (preferred). Minimum Work Experience 1 year RN experience (required). Required Skills/Knowledge Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation at Children's National. Keep knowledge current with updates in the specialty area. Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse license in District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia depending on practice location. CPR certification. Functional Accountabilities Transformational Leadership Contribute to Magnet re-designation through professional profile updates, council involvement, committees, task forces, and community outreach. Demonstrate critical thinking and effective communication in patient care planning and advocacy. Initiate escalation of issues appropriately. Use handoff processes correctly and maintain respectful relationships with staff. Participate in change implementation and support management decisions. Exhibit empathetic and helpful behavior. Structural Empowerment Maintain regulatory requirements such as licenses and BLS certification. Attend mandatory education and professional activities. Participate in peer reviews and departmental goal enhancements. Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members. Utilize resources and escalate issues when necessary. Exemplary Professional Practice Use assessment data to inform care within timeframes. Show clinical skills with complex patients, prioritizing and organizing effectively. Ensure documentation adheres to standards. Plan educational needs for patients and families. Demonstrate caring and improve patient satisfaction. Safety Speak up about unsafe behaviors.
