Job Description

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Quality Assurance Team and quality operations on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the quality program is applied to all aspects of the product
  • Champion the Steam Whistle Brewing’s Quality Assurance Program by providing quality related training to staff, maintaining, and updating records
  • Review and update all quality related policies, documents, and forms, ensuring that the Quality program is implemented and embraced throughout the facilities
  • Conduct quality inspections, manage data, analyze trends, and flag any issues or OOS parameters
  • Manage the laboratory, supplies and equipment, ensuring it meets standards and equipment is calibrated and maintained
  • Monitor and assess the beer; track raw materials, wort, fermenter, aging tank, bright beer tank and finished products
  • Perform shelf-life monitoring and shelf-life taste tests
  • Manage the company sensory panels, ensuring compliance, timelines and employee attendance
  • As part of the management team provide expertise and support to management regarding Steam Whistle’s Quality program, goals and future development
  • Monitor and report customer complaints, working in collaboration with the department managers to investigate root causes 
  • Work with supply chain and marketing teams to ensure all packaging/labelling meets our quality and regulatory requirements
  • Stay engaged and knowledgeable regarding potential compliance issues and regulatory changes that may affect the business
  • Work in collaboration with management team to further develop quality processes, procedures and compliance, embracing a continuous improvement mindset
Skills and Experience:
  • Experience of managing and coaching a team
  • Bachelor’s degree in science related field such as microbiology or food science
  • Full understanding of quality systems and process improvement processes
  • Working knowledge of operations, environmental standards, regulations and sustainable development
  • Previous experience working in alcohol beverage is preferred
  • Ability to apply high level root-cause and problem solving skills at all levels
  • Foundational knowledge in brewing, packaging or beverage manufacturing is preferable
  • Demonstrated understanding of the concepts of manufacturing such as 6 Sigma, GMP, Process Capability, World Class Manufacturing, TQA, etc., and be able to establish and implement plans
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact confidently and effectively with multiple departments and employees
