The Interventional Oncology (INTO) team is an Enterprise R&D unit at Johnson & Johnson focused on developing powerful locally delivered cancer treatments to transform the standard of care. This team leverages the unique convergence of Innovative Medicine and MedTech expertise at Johnson & Johnson. We are committed to developing innovative Intratumoral drug treatments delivered directly into lung and other tumors via minimally invasive procedures to improve patients lives.
We are searching for the best talent for a Principal Scientist in Discovery and Translational Sciences to join our Interventional Oncology Team in North America (based in either Spring House, PA; San Diego, CA; New Brunswick, NJ; or Boston, MA). This position is a pivotal role in developing and implementing biomarker strategies that align with our clinical development plans across the portfolio. As a vital member of the development team, you will build and validate molecular, immunological, pathological, and/or imaging biomarkers to optimize patient selection, monitor pharmacodynamics, and assess treatment responses!
Key Responsibilities - Develop and maintain translational and clinical biomarker strategies to support assets within the portfolio
- Lead the development of biomarker related components of trial designs, study protocols, lab manuals, clinical study reports, investigator brochures and regulatory submissions
- Provide biomarker strategy insights at development team meetings and governance reviews
- Partner with the Discovery team to develop plans for clinical translation of biomarkers;
- Collaborate with the Biomarker Operations team and Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to ensure the delivery of validated biomarker assays
- Work with the Data Science group to develop and implement data analysis strategies to fulfill biomarker plans
Qualifications - PhD or equivalent experience in life sciences is required
- 4 or more years of post-PhD working experience in translational or clinical research and at least 1+ years of experience in biomarker development and implementation within oncology clinical trials is required.
- Demonstrated success in discovering, validating, and clinically implementing biomarker readouts, especially in genomic and transcriptomic profiling, histological/pathological evaluations, and immunological assessments is required.
- Experience of working with CROs to deliver biomarker readouts is required.
- Strong understanding and track-record of operationalizing Good Clinical Practice (GCP) principles as part of a clinical study team is required.
- Familiarity with analytical approaches to complex biomarker datasets, such as genomic data (e.g., DNA-seq/RNA-seq) is required.
- Proven track record to thrive in global cross-functional teams is required.
- Strong capability to influence teams and engage team members effectively is required.
- Knowledge and experience in implementing biomarkers specifically in lung and/or head and neck cancer clinical trials; experience with intra-tumoral therapies is preferred.
- Awareness and preferably experience in predictive biomarkers, including diagnostic development is preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is : $115,000 - $197,800
Additional Description For Pay Transparency The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporations performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Companys discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Companys consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Companys long-term incentive program. Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits: Vacation up to 120 hours per calendar year Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington up to 56 hours per calendar year Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year Additional information can be found through the link below.
