Job Description Purpose of Position: The NATE/PCT is an integral part of the patient care team providing prompt, courteous, and customer-focused service to the patients, visitors, and co-workers. The NATE/PCT receives assignments from the supervisor and/or dispatcher and is responsible for transporting patients within the hospital and for miscellaneous functions as well. The NATE/PCT contributes to service excellence by fostering collaboration among and between team members as well as ancillary departments. Duties and Responsibilities Obtains and completes patient transport assignments from a designated supervisor/dispatcher via their ROVER or manual assignment. Provides and receives hand-off for patient and/or miscellaneous items to/from appropriate personnel upon arrival to a unit/department. Obtains and maintains paperwork/chart as required with patient at all times during transport and releases chart only to authorized personnel Introduces self to patients, identifies patient using two identifiers (patient's full name and date of birth), and explains the nature of the trip. Observes proper body mechanic techniques during patient/medical equipment transport. Monitors patient status throughout transport, reporting any change in patient's condition (difficulty breathing, complaints of discomfort, etc.) to appropriate personnel. Assists appropriate personnel in transferring and positioning patients in and out of wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, bassinets, and morgue trays/ Gurneys. Transports patients to and from patient care areas, diagnostic areas, and to the main lobby for discharge with their belongings and medical equipment via wheelchair, stretcher, in a safe and appropriate manner. Assists appropriate personnel in transferring and positioning patients on examination tables in areas such as X-ray, MRI, CT-Scan. Utilizes the elevators assigned for patient-use only. Maintains standard precautions and adheres to the isolation precautions including proper use of personal protective equipment as defined in EHR and isolation precaution signs located outside of patients' rooms. Documents patient transport activities including acknowledgement of request, in progress status, completion of requests, and delays accordingly via ROVER. If on a manual assignment, the NATE/PCA/PCT communicates each step, including delays to the dispatcher accordingly. Transports decedents with belongings from patient care areas to the morgue as requested. Picks up and delivers specimens and blood products to and from specified areas in a safe and timely fashion. Maintains wheelchairs readily available for transport. Reports defective equipment to the manager for repair. Observes Infection Prevention protocols when handling ROVER, medical charts, and medical equipment. Minimum Qualifications Elementary school graduation or equivalent ability to effectively communicate with patients; Ability to keep simple clinical records.
