Executive Underwriter / AVP, Underwriting Director Contract Surety

Zurich North America is looking for an Executive Underwriter OR AVP, Underwriting Director Contract Surety to work out of our Owings Mills, MD office. This is a highly technical and market facing position and requires experience with Surety lines of business. The role will require approximately 20% travel.

Responsibilities

• Production and underwriting of new and renewal Surety business
• Managing a book of prominent accounts
• External marketing and production within Zurich North America in support of crosssell efforts
• Execution of the external marketing strategy
• Adherence to insurance laws, regulations, and the Zurich Way of underwriting
• Establish new as well as develop existing agency and broker relationships
• Working within limits and authorities on assignments of varying degrees of complexity

Basic Qualifications Executive Underwriter

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting, Banking, Mortgage, Finance, or Market Facing area
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area
• Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 3+ years of experience in Underwriting, Banking, Mortgage, Finance, or Market Facing area
• Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience working in a team environment

Basic Qualifications AVP, Underwriting Director

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7+ years of experience in Underwriting, Market Facing area, Finance, Accounting, Banking
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting, Market Facing area, Finance, Accounting, Banking
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area
• Experience with Microsoft Office

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Compensation

As an insurance company, Zurich is subject to 18 U.S. Code 1033. Compensation is influenced by factors including office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter level is $103,300.00$169,100.00, with a shortterm incentive bonus eligibility of 15%. For the AVP, Underwriting Director level it is $136,500.00$223,700.00, with a shortterm incentive bonus eligibility of 20%. Additional rewards may encompass shortterm incentive bonuses and merit increases.
