Description The Triage Nurse - RN position is responsible for providing an initial assessment to evaluate the care needs of an OB/GYN patient. The RN will serve as the primary liaison between patients, providers, and clinical staff.
Responsibilities - Patient Assessment and Care Planning: Answer triage phone calls/portal messages and provide care instructions in accordance with clinic policies and protocols based on a sequential nursing assessment.
- Clinical Procedures and Treatments: Assist providers with clinical procedures, examinations, and treatments related to obstetrics, gynecology, and women's health when higher licensure is required. Assist with medication refills per protocol. Follow up on lab and diagnostic results with patients per provider protocols.
- Patient Education and Counseling: Provide patient education and counseling on topics such as prenatal care, family planning, contraception, menopause, and women's health maintenance. Offer guidance and support to patients and their families regarding healthcare decisions and treatment options.
- Labor and Delivery Support: Assist with labor and delivery processes, including monitoring fetal heart rate, administering medications, and providing emotional support to laboring patients. Collaborate with obstetricians and midwives to ensure safe and effective management of labor and delivery.
- Documentation and Charting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including nursing assessments, care plans, progress notes, and documentation of patient education and counseling. Ensure compliance with documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Patient Advocacy and Support: Advocate for patients' rights, preferences, and needs within the healthcare system, ensuring respectful and patient-centered care. Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families facing challenging healthcare situations.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare team members, including physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, and support staff. Communicate relevant patient information, care plans, and treatment outcomes to healthcare team members in a clear and concise manner.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience in obstetrics, gynecology, or women's health nursing.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a triage nurse.
- Certification in obstetric or gynecologic nursing (e.g., RNC-OB, WHNP-BC) preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to make independent nursing judgments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
