Job Description

Position Summary:

Design Engineer to produce 3D solid models and drawings of molds and fixtures.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

· All mold design work is performed accurately, efficiently and is completed on schedule.

· All designs are created with the philosophy of making a mold that will make the best quality part possible while staying within the guidelines established by the mold quotation.

· The customer’s design is reviewed to determine if there are areas that can cause problems in manufacturing i.e., heavy wall sections that will cause sinks, zero draft areas, not enough draft angle.

· Finished mold designs and modified surface files are loaded into the system and properly documented.

· Mold base, and mold design standards are properly implemented.

· All relevant job information is properly filed.

· A record of all changes and revisions is kept documenting the mold design process.

· Upon completion of a mold design, a bill of materials is created and given to purchasing so all required components can purchased.

· Create 3D solid models and drawings of molds from customer supplied CAD models and requirements using Solidworks CAD software.

· Design and produce detail drawings of basic machining and secondary operations fixtures.

· Support tool shop when questions arise by analyzing CAD files.

· All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Proficiency with Solidworks CAD software is a must.

· Exposure to DFM (Design for Manufacturability), CNC machining processes and manual machining processes preferred.

· Basic understanding of CAM software preferred, but not required.

· Understanding of drafting standards (ANSI, ISO, etc.)

· Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

· Competent with reading measuring equipment including micrometers, Vernier calipers, etc.

· Must be detail oriented as drawings need to be accurate and easy to understand.

Education/Experience:

· Minimum of two years direct technical mold making experience.
