Reports To: Assistant Director Duty Hours/Days: Varies as needed Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: A05 Qualifications: College hours, high school diploma or GED (preferred)
Five years of vehicle driving experience
Acceptable driving record as defined by TxDPS and Katy ISD
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
Class A Certification
Pass annual physical in accordance with state law
Negative result on drug and/or alcohol tests administered as pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy
Able to communicate in English in both written and oral
Able to read and interpret maps and routes
Able to climb in and out of Tractor
Able to work productively without continual supervision
Long-distance driving
Communicating and coordinating with dispatchers
Obeying and following applicable traffic laws
Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle
Maintaining a detailed log of working hours in compliance with state and federal regulations
Ensuring any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
Primary Purpose: Safely drive equipment to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Transportation Department. Safely transport equipment to and from district sanctioned activities. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students and the community.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: - Operate any Katy ISD Tractor and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner while following all traffic laws, district policies, district regulations and Transportation Department regulations.
- Follow guidance of the dispatcher and request help from dispatch when necessary.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical problems, damage or concerns
- Report involvement in any accident, incident or job-related injury in a timely manner.
- Keep the interior of the vehicle clean and sanitized after each route / trip
- Communicate discipline procedures and/or problems either by verbal interaction or by written communication to riders, parents and principals.
- Attend all route practices and rehearsals.
- Attend Special Needs trainings, as required.
- Establish and maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Read and follow established procedures and guidelines.
- Adhere to route assignment changes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used: Katy ISD Tractor and trailer, emergency equipment (triangle reflectors, fire extinguisher, bodily fluids kit, etc.), two-way radio, securements, fuel pump, cleaning equipment (sanitizer, rag, towel, broom, mop, etc.).
Working Conditions: Maintain emotional and physical control under stress. Prolonged driving, prolonged sitting. Frequent walking, standing, twisting, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension. Moderate lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold), vehicle fumes, noise and dust. Working around moving vehicles and vehicles/machinery with moving parts. Irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours.
