The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

Our Perception team builds the system that sees the world around the self-driving car. We conduct research to address real-world problems and collaborate with research teams at Alphabet. We have access to millions of miles of driving data from diverse sensors, enabling researchers like you to develop complex models and techniques at scale.

In this hybrid role, you will report to a Technical Lead Manager.

You will:

1. Apply machine learning techniques to build multi-modal sensor fusion architectures, including object detection and tracking, segmentation, road understanding, flow estimation, and future prediction.
2. Design large-scale foundation models trained on our vast data.
3. Create foundation-scale datasets to enable self-supervised learning and distillation.
4. Develop data mining, labeling, training, and evaluation pipelines to support the Waymo Driver.

You have:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline, or equivalent deep learning experience.
2. 3+ years of experience in Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning.
3. Proficiency with Python.

We prefer:

1. MS or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
2. Publications at top-tier conferences like CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, ICML, ICRA, RSS, NeurIPS, AAAI, IJCV, or PAMI.
3. Experience with C++.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will depend on factors such as location, experience, training, education, and skill level. Your recruiter can provide specific salary details during the hiring process. Waymo employees are also eligible for discretionary bonuses, equity incentives, and comprehensive benefits, subject to eligibility.

Salary Range: $170,000 — $216,000 USD
