Position Summary / Objective:

KMS Solutions is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for providing systems safety, environmental qualification testing, and range sustainment in support of undersea warfare systems, including unmanned and autonomous systems. Candidates with education and experience in computer engineering or software development fields are highly desired.

Essential functions:

  • Support software development efforts using Java and C to assist the Navy in achieving environmental compliance for global test and training operations. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of software tools that meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development, testing, and analysis of software systems supporting the Marine Species Modeling Team (MSMT), leveraging Java and C to implement core functionality and analytical tools.
  • Apply programming expertise to acoustic signal processing challenges, supporting the implementation of detection techniques and localization algorithms as part of underwater acoustic analysis.
  • Develop and maintain components of MSMT systems, ensuring alignment with engineering and performance requirements. Use Java to implement sonar models and simulation features; apply C for performance-critical modules.
  • Contribute to the development of Undersea Warfare (USW) systems, using strong skills in C and Java programming to build, test, and refine software components on Linux platforms.

Required education and experience:

  • Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of software development experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Java programming and C programming

Preferred education and experience:

  • Secret DoD clearance
  • Eight (8) years of software engineering experience
  • Engineering experience specifically with undersea warfare systems and/or Navy training range systems
  • NUWC Division Newport specific experience

Competencies:

  • Capable of effectively working and problem solving in both independent and team environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of data structures and algorithms as they apply to code development
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Experience communicating and interacting with all levels of customer and company leadership
  • Strong record of delivering quality software products

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. Attendance at prescheduled mandatory meetings is required. Must be available during the core work hours as determined by your contract/location and must account for the required number of hours in a pay period to maintain Full-time status.

Telework:

  • Telework may be allowed up to 40% after the first six months.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel CONUS; potential to travel OCONUS
  • Travel up to 10% may be required.
