We are seeking a Senior Indigenous Health Policy Analyst to join a collaborative and committed team focused on Indigenous health and wellness. This is an existing senior staff role, replacing a colleague who has transitioned into project management.

The Senior Health Policy Analyst will play a key role in applying an Indigenous lens to internal policy development, decision-making frameworks, and committee work across the organization. The successful candidate will report initially to a senior leader and, over time, to a manager currently being hired.

This position requires someone who is confident, collaborative, and able to represent Indigenous perspectives effectively at committees often composed of physicians and senior leaders. The role is particularly suited for a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis professional who is passionate about systemic change, culturally safe policy-making, and Indigenous engagement.

PLEASE NOTE: The incumbent must be located in Greater Toronto Area area or willing to relocate.

Roles and Responsibilities

Engage with committees to explain the rationale behind proposed changes.
  • Committee Participation and Leadership : Actively participate in a wide range of clinical and operational committees, supporting the integration of Indigenous perspectives into frameworks related to treatment, legislation and care delivery models.
  • Community Engagement and Systemic Advocacy : Support broader organizational initiatives addressing Indigenous homelessness, treatment-seeking, and the historical context of the Indian hospital system. Collaborate with internal policy teams and external partners to shape responsive, community-informed strategies.
  • Policy Research and Development : Conduct research, jurisdictional scans, impact assessments, and option analyses to support policy recommendations. Draft policy briefs, position papers, and public policy documents advancing Indigenous health and wellness priorities.
  • Relationship Building : Build strong working relationships with Indigenous communities, service providers, government bodies, and system partners to ensure meaningful consultation and collaboration throughout policy development.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years experience in the mental health, substance use, government, research, or academic sectors.
  • Deep understanding of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis traditions, cultures, values, and healing practices.
  • Expertise in applying cultural safety, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive frameworks to policy development.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive discussions with diplomacy, confidence, and respect for Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
  • Experience developing policies that promote cultural safety, anti-racism, and anti-oppression.
  • Experience sitting on and contributing to high-level committees.
  • Proven leadership supporting Indigenous-centered policy and system transformation.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree required in health policy/administration, Indigenous studies, public health, social work, or a related field from a recognized institution.

The final hiring decision will be based on merit. The ideal qualified candidate will self-identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis and have demonstrated experience working with First Nations, Inuit or Metis communities .
