JOB DESCRIPTION A high-level performer with strong relationships and the ability to lead their capability on projects with little oversight. The Senior Designer plays a key role in defining the spatial/formal design attitude on projects and connecting them to the broader project strategy and vision via creative and innovative design solutions. (Master Planning thru Installation)PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS (80%)Clients and ConsultantsProficient understanding of G&A's scope of workProficient understanding of consultants' contracts / scope of workPresents designs at client meetings (travels to)Leads consultant coordination meetings Leads design workshops (internal and with client stakeholders)Leads on-site observations and other documentation during the CA phase of work. Participates during Construction Administration and Installation phases (travels to)Design and DocumentationFluency in documentation standards and practicesFluency in visualization standards and practicesProficient understanding of architectural coordination issues Proficient understanding of design planning issuesProficient understanding of storytelling techniquesProficient understanding of materials, fabrication processes and techniquesWorking understanding of the zeitgeistTranslates CAD information from clients/architects to suit G&A design purposes and processesFluency in Vectorworks Coordinates designs with graphic, content, media and technology elementsDevelops 3D digital modelsDevelops design direction sketches Develops presentation plans/elevations/sections/axons, visualizations, and flythroughsDevelops image mood boards and finish palettesDevelops fabrication intent documentation (drawings / specifications)Develops architectural coordination documentation (drawings / specifications)Contributes to the organizing idea and strategy stackManagement: Design and ProductionFluency in project phasesProficient understanding of ROM implementation costs informationProficient understanding of exhibition implementation scheduleGenerates work plans for teamsLeads coordination with Building and Exhibit systemsReviews RFI's, shop drawings & material submittalsMaintains project file and folder systemTEAM RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS (20%)Recruiting / HiringRefers people in their professional network for jobsInterviews candidatesCapability WorkflowProficient understanding of G&A best practices for file and folder maintenanceIterates, and maintains adherence to the team's application of processes, tools, and templatesDevelops team-level digital assetsDevelops material library assetsDevelops vendor contacts for materials and furnishingsProfessional DevelopmentProficient understanding of Situated Media / Universal Design / Material CultureProficient understanding of all team software and toolsProficient understanding of communications Attends weekly team meetingsMentor Junior and Intermediate designersTrains Intermediate designersTroubleshoots project challenges with team members with an eye toward developing their creative problem-solving skills and self-sufficiency.
