Job Description

Non-Profit Organization located in Central Harlem is seeking to hire a skilled project lead and copywriter to provide support for a range of communications, including A-list writing, board communications, marketing copy proofreading, and employee newsletters. This role will be critical in ensuring high-quality written content that aligns with organization's brand voice and objectives. The project lead will work remotely and directly collaborate with various teams (including marketing, HR, and executive leadership) to independently deliver critical communications pieces. The project lead will set the pace and cadence for delivery and ensure communications are released on-time and according to the specifications outlined by either marketing or communications managers.

Responsibilities

The copywriter will be responsible for the following deliverables:

A-list Writing

  • Drafting dedicated A-list communications on a weekly basis (A-list is a high-priority, exclusive list of communications or updates to key stakeholders).
  • Creating and refining language that resonates with the audience and aligns with the overall messaging strategy.
  • Ensuring all content is clear, engaging, and adheres to the organization's voice.
  • A-list pieces are delivered every week.

Board Communications

  • Crafting language for board communications.
  • Collaborating with public relations and senior leadership to relay key messaging and provide strategic communication recommendations.
  • Ensuring that the tone and structure of the communications are professional, clear, and on-brand.
  • Board communications are delivered every week.

Marketing Copy Review

  • Proofreading and providing insight on marketing copy, ensuring it is error-free and on-brand.
  • Suggesting improvements and edits to enhance the effectiveness of marketing messages and campaigns.
  • Providing feedback on marketing materials, including newsletters, social media posts, web copy, and promotional content.

Employee Newsletter

  • Working with People and Workplace (P&W) to craft, draft and edit the internal employee newsletter, ensuring it is informative, engaging, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Collaborating with P&W to ensure timely and accurate communication of key updates, events, and announcements to employees.
  • Ensuring that the newsletter maintains a positive tone and promotes organizational culture and values.
  • Employee newsletters are delivered every week.

Deliverables

  • Weekly A-list communications drafts (dedicated and weekly updates).
  • Monthly board communication drafts as required (including any revisions and feedback).
  • Proofread and edited marketing copy for newsletters, campaigns, and social media.
  • Employee newsletter drafts and edits, including content creation and final revisions.

Expected Outcomes

  • Timely, high-quality written materials that reflect the organization's brand and messaging.
  • Clear and concise communications that support organizational objectives.
  • Positive feedback from senior leadership, HR, and marketing teams.
  • Enhanced internal communication through well-crafted employee newsletters.

Collaboration and Reporting

  • Weekly check-ins will be scheduled to discuss progress, address any questions, and align on upcoming deliverables.
  • Regular feedback loops will be incorporated and scheduled with all project leads to ensure the copy meets the expectations of all stakeholders.

Time Commitment and Scheduling

  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Work will be completed remotely and can be scheduled according to the copywriter's availability, provided deadlines are met.
  • Flexibility in work hours is allowed as long as project deadlines are adhered to.
