SCHEDULE: Full time, 12- month position. 27.5 Hours per week. Work hours overlap to the school day. Special events or projects may take place during the early evenings occasionally.

PAY RATE: $19- $21 per hour

SIGN-ON BONUS: $1,000

OVERVIEW:

A Prevention Education Specialist is responsible for developing and/or delivering research-based curriculum with fidelity through youth and adult planned duplication sessions; trainings; and multi-session, psycho-education groups regarding alcohol and drug use, chemical dependency and other related topics relevant to youth, families and those who work with youth. PE Specialists are responsible for promoting/marketing the Center's prevention services. This position also provides outreach via information dissemination on the full array of collaboration services provided by The Center for Youth. The PE Specialist may be called upon to fulfill the duties of the Social Learning Specialist in his/her absence and therefore may be cross-trained in that position.

PE Specialists facilitate youth development groups; independent living skills training for the clients of the Center House – an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth (and other sites as needed); provide consultation/support to other programs and are a training resource to the agency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :

  • Implement needs assessment
  • Facilitate trainings including research/science-based curriculum with fidelity, planned duplication sessions
  • Develop and maintain resource files and outlines
  • Complete accurate and timely records, service, evaluations and Monthly QA reports
  • Design services based on curriculum and Teacher Needs Assessments
  • Record keeping (Pre/Post Testing)
  • Development and maintenance of resource files and training aids
  • Provide referral readiness support to teachers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Participate in monthly individual and group supervision and weekly agency trainings
  • Outreach and information dissemination
  • Intake, needs assessment and service planning
  • Knowledge of school policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

One to three years of directly related experience with proven platform skills and the ability to facilitate experiential groups. A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in an Education or Human Service related field.

Note: A Master's Degree, CPP/ICPS/CASAC, advanced training and/or certifications in professional areas directly related to the skills required is preferred.

In addition to the above, it is mandatory that candidates meet the following criteria prior to hire:

  • Authorization for the agency to obtain driving record information
  • A valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to agency insurance carrier and regular access to a motor vehicle
  • Automobile insurance at the level of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident Bodily Injury and $50,000 Property Damage

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must be able to be autonomously mobile in providing prevention services in numerous settings including: The Center House; Center offices; numerous city and suburban schools; and other community locations throughout the County.
