Dr. Masako Shimamura Lab

Post-Doctoral Scientist position - This position is in the Center for Microbe and Immunity Research in Dr. Masako Shimamura’s lab. Our team studies dysregulated immune responses to viral infections in the immunocompromised host, including infants with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection. We are currently utilizing PBMC CITE-seq to understand signatures associated with disease severity and outcomes in cCMV infected infants. Read more at the website below:

The postdoc will take a lead role in analyzing the CITE-seq dataset, which will be used to design and implement subsequent in-vitro studies to elucidate the mechanistic basis for impaired T cell responses to congenital infection. Secondary analyses will explore the role of cytotoxic NK cells and antigen-presenting cells in contributing to vs protecting against severe disease.

Experience in viral immunology, APC biology, and bioinformatics is desirable. Motivation and interest to drive and develop the project is critical for success, as is a willingness to train other personnel and to participate in a collaborative environment.

Essential Functions

• Designs experiments, develops protocols, and conducts research under the guidance of the faculty mentor.
• Assists in the training and supervision of technical support staff in performing specific techniques essential to carrying out the research program.
• Records and analyzes data generated by the research study. Assists in the development of hypotheses for further investigation from the results of the studies performed.
• Assists with the preparation of scientific and technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Presents findings at local and national research forums.
• Collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at NCH or at The Ohio State University.
• Works toward research independence, preparing to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.

Education

• PhD in relevant field of science, required. Depending on research experience, equivalent degree may be considered.
