Salary: This is a full-time, twelve (12) month position at 232 days with a minimum annual salary of $73,132.00. This is a grant-funded position and continued employment is contingent upon grant renewal.
Job Summary (Primary Purpose): Support students, families, LEA's, and educators through State Supplemental Services to Students with Visual Impairments.
Required Qualification (Knowledge, Skills & Education/Certificates): - Bachelor's Degree
- ACVREP Certification in Orientation and Mobility
- Five (5) years as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Texas public school system
- Experience mentoring new COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists)
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Education/Certificates): - Master's Degree
- Valid teaching certificate with VI endorsement
- Knowledge of curricula, instruction, and assessment in the area of Orientation and Mobility for ages birth to 21, including students with complex access needs.
- Knowledge of current special education Federal/State laws, regulations, and rules
- Knowledge of assistive technology related to Orientation and Mobility
- Ability to develop and disseminate information and guides to support programming for students with visual impairments as related to the special needs of the VI population
- Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Major Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions: - Serve as a representative of the ESC Region 13, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the educational community and with the public
- Provide technical assistance and professional development specific to students with visual impairments, including students with complex access needs, in accordance with special education legal standards and guidelines
- Support COMS and TSVIs through individual mentoring, coaching, and sharing resources and information
- Oversee internships for COMS candidates
- Provide support to districts without a COMS on staff by conducting O&M evaluations,assistance securing independent COMS service providers and providing direct services to districts with very low intensity of needs
- Planning Expanded Core Curriculum, ECC specific student programming, and family engagement events
- Collaborate with TWS (TX Workforce Solutions), HHSC (Health and Human Services), and TSBVI (Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired) on educational enhancement projects
- Participate in the Special Education Specialized Supports Network meetings, statewide stakeholder committee meetings, activities, and projects
- Collaborate with the ESC Region 13 Education Specialist for Visual Impairments for coordination of all components related to SSVI grant funding
- Develop and provide guides and training materials for TSVIs and COMS
- Provide O&M specific instructional materials and tools
- Maintain routine documents, records, and O&M specific resource library
- Perform other duties as assigned
