Overview

A leading MEP design consultancy is seeking a Mechanical Design Director to lead mechanical engineering operations in the Tampa office. This role oversees project delivery, drives technical excellence, supports strategic growth, and ensures high-quality engineering solutions across multiple sectors including Healthcare, Commercial, Government, and Education .

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing mechanical engineering team.
• Manage cross-functional teams and collaborate closely with electrical, plumbing, and project management groups.
• Promote a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability.

Project Oversight

• Oversee mechanical design delivery for complex building projects.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements.
• Provide senior-level technical guidance and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Review and approve mechanical design packages, calculations, and specifications.

Financial & Operational Management

• Lead cost analysis , budgeting , and financial forecasting for mechanical engineering projects.
• Manage departmental performance, resource allocation, and workload planning.
• Support the development of proposals, fee structures, and scope documentation.

Strategic Planning

• Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the Tampa office and wider business.
• Identify market trends, growth opportunities, and potential client partnerships.
• Support business development efforts and strengthen key client relationships.

Sector Expertise

• Provide leadership and technical oversight in the following markets:
• Healthcare
• Commercial
• Government
• Education

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required.
• 10+ years of mechanical design experience in building services.
• Proven leadership experience within an MEP consultancy.
• Strong understanding of codes, standards, and best practices.
• Excellent communication, team leadership, and strategic thinking skills.
