Job Overview

The incumbent will serve as a Clinical Leader in Ophthalmology and Neuroscience, developing the Translational Medicine and Early Development Plan, and leading clinical development strategies for early-stage compounds. This includes medical oversight, conduct, and analysis of first-in-human, proof of pharmacology, proof of mechanism, and proof of concept studies for NME early development programs, as well as mechanistic and clinical pharmacology studies supporting all phases of ophthalmology portfolio development.

Essential Functions

• Leading the early development clinical team in producing high-quality protocols, reports, and regulatory submissions.
• Collaborating with discovery teams on target identification, biomarker strategies, and NME criteria.
• Contributing to cross-functional teams in clinical development.
• Formulating and executing early Clinical Development Plans, including trial design and endpoints.
• Working with functional leaders in GCO, Regulatory, and Medical Safety to meet shared objectives.
• Representing the company at health authority meetings, including FDA and CHMP.
• Participating in strategic planning within the Ophthalmology Disease Area Leadership Team.
• Providing input for business development due diligence.
• Collaborating across disease and therapeutic areas to leverage Johnson & Johnsons scientific expertise.
• Building relationships with key opinion leaders.

Qualifications

• MD or equivalent; Board certification in Ophthalmology preferred.
• Deep understanding of retinal disorders, including inherited, vascular, and degenerative diseases of the macula.
• Experience in clinical drug development, including planning and executing clinical trials to high standards.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

Technical Skills

• Fluent in English, written and spoken.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and regulatory requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
• Experience in leading and coaching teams.

Additional Information

The base salary range is $226,000 to $391,000 USD, with benefits including health insurance, savings and pension plans, and other employee programs. Specific benefits depend on location.
