As a Fire Protection Engineer, you’ll serve as a subject matter expert on fire protection and life safety issues affecting government facilities. You’ll review design and other technical documents for construction activities and operations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. You’ll identify optimal fire protection solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. You’ll conduct inspections of construction to validate compliance of fire protection and life safety aspects. Responsibilities include reviewing planning, programming, architectural, and engineering design documents and other technical documents for proposed construction activities; conducting comprehensive fire safety audits, inspections, and investigations of company operations to ensure compliance with fire protection codes and standards; conducting inspections of new construction and renovations; witnessing acceptance testing and commissioning of fire protection systems and equipment; assisting with corporate fire protection governance and policy, standard operating procedures, and facility design standards; attending professional meetings within the government to benchmark industry and government agency practices; preparing internal briefings, fact sheets, newsletter articles, and other communications; supporting data collection and metrics development; and contributing to company records and knowledge management activities. Requirements include 5+ years of experience with life safety, experience in the fire protection field, TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph, a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, and the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) License before start date. Preferred qualifications include experience in fire protection aspects of facility design, construction, and commissioning; familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria, International Building Code, and NFPA Codes and Standards; experience in multiple engineering disciplines; ability to travel domestically and internationally; excellent customer service and communication skills; graduation from an ABET-EAC accredited Fire Protection Engineering program; completion of the Fire Protection Engineering Written Examination by NCEES; and a registered PE License.
