POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL is currently seeking a qualified mid-level Environmental Scientist to support environmental compliance and field operations for the St. Louis FUSRAP project. This role will operate under the direction of the Project Compliance Manager and will play a key part in ensuring adherence to environmental regulations throughout remediation and construction activities. The position will also require collecting general field data, environmental sampling (water), and performing daily data entry and analysis tasks. Strong technical writing and documentation capabilities are necessary to carry out these various tasks and routine report preparation. This is a full time on-site role based out of our St. Louis office in Hazelwood, MO.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Coordinating and/or performing the proper collection, preservation, packaging, and transportation of environmental samples
  • Creating and performing QA of chain of custodies
  • Various data management tasks through SQL databases (EQuIS and FEDMS)
  • Maintaining daily quality control reports and logbooks
  • Creating reports for data end users
  • Maintaining archive sample inventory and storage area
  • Documenting NPDES and MSD Permit sampling events
  • Performing compliance inspection of work sites

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Science or a related academic filed.
  • 4+ years of directly related work experience.
  • Performing and overseeing environmental field activities, authoring technical reports, and reviewing/interpreting environmental data.
  • Ability to research and resolve regulatory compliance issues that may arise.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other MS Office applications.
  • Required skills include proficiency in the use of SQL databases.
  • The successful candidate will be required to possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment.
  • Physically capable of collecting environmental samples, and able to lift/carry up to 30 pounds of equipment on terrain that is typical of the St. Louis City/St. Louis County area.
  • Local travel in the St. Louis area and surrounding vicinity will be required.
  • Some holiday and weekend support coverage will be required as needed, based on rain events and compliance sampling schedule.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.

The salary range for this position ranges from $63,600-$95,400. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
