Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team at a 400 person manufacturing plant. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring the facility's operations comply with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards. The EHS Specialist will work closely with plant leadership and employees to promote a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
• Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory safety and environmental standards.
• Develop and maintain safety protocols, emergency response plans, and health programs.
• Lead safety training programs, including new employee orientations and annual refresher courses.
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses, and assist in root cause analysis.
• Document incidents and accidents, preparing detailed reports with corrective actions and follow-ups.
• Maintain a comprehensive record of safety incidents and environmental compliance data.
• Conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments to evaluate workplace conditions.
• Recommend control measures for identified risks to minimize the potential for accidents or violations.
• Work closely with department heads, supervisors, and employees to integrate EHS goals into daily operations.
• Provide guidance and expertise on safety issues, emergency procedures, and environmental compliance.
• Lead audits, reviews, and inspections conducted by regulatory agencies.
• Monitor and report on the effectiveness of safety programs, recommending improvements when necessary.
• Lead plant’s safety committees, including promoting safety initiatives and best practices.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting EHS-related incidents, inspections, audits, and compliance checks.
• Maintain EHS-related records to meet legal requirements.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Oversee waste management, recycling programs, and chemical handling procedures.
• Track environmental metrics, prepare reports, and ensure timely reporting to regulatory agencies.
• Participate in environmental audits and inspections, both internal and external.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably within automotive or manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations, and other relevant safety and environmental laws.
• Previous experience conducting EHS audits and investigations.
Qualifications (cont.)
• Certification in OSHA 30-hour General Industry (or equivalent) and other safety-related certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER) preferred.
• Experience with environmental compliance, waste management, and hazardous materials handling.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
