The Director of Operations will provide strategic and hands-on leadership across all administrative and business functions of the firm, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and alignment with the firm’s strategic goals. This role is responsible for establishing measurable performance standards, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensuring accountability across departments to optimize efficiency, profitability, and client service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate firm operations, including administration, facilities, finance, human resources, and client service functions.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that support firm growth, productivity, and profitability.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for attorneys, practice groups, and support staff to measure operational efficiency, utilization rates, matter turnaround times, and client satisfaction.
  • Partner with practice leaders to analyze performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement and cost control.
  • Implement systems to track workflow, case management, and billing performance, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to firm leadership.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance collaboration between legal and administrative teams and ensure consistent adherence to firm policies and procedures.
  • Manage vendor relationships, office resources, and technology solutions to maintain operational excellence.
  • Develop dashboards and reports summarizing firm-wide performance trends for partners and senior leadership.
  • Support the firm’s financial planning and budgeting processes, ensuring data-driven decision-making and accountability for outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or related advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in operations, business management, or law firm administration.
  • Strong understanding of law firm economics, utilization metrics, billing practices, and workflow management.
  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and managing KPIs in a professional services environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, capable of building trust across all levels of the firm.
  • Proficiency with law firm management systems and business intelligence tools.
