As a Data Scientist Manager at BillionToOne, you will play a key role in leading, analyzing complex genetic data, and developing models that enhance our genetic testing products. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including bioinformatics, product development, and marketing, to provide data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data manipulation, statistical analysis, and machine learning, with experience in working with large datasets from various sources.

This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strong understanding of both scientific research and business fundamentals. The ideal candidate will have a MS or PhD in a relevant field, advanced data manipulation skills in R or Python, proficiency in SQL, and experience working with various data formats. Additionally, this role will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams to inform decision-making and drive growth.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.


• Develop and implement data strategies that support the company's genetic testing products and services for bioinformatics and commercial data goals.


• Perform advanced data manipulation and analysis using R or Python, ensuring high-quality and reproducible results.


• Retrieve, clean, and integrate data from disparate sources such as SQL databases, JSON, CSV, and XLSX files.


• Conduct complex data analyses to inform business decisions, focusing on key metrics like revenue, profit, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, and cohort analysis.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, finance, and operations, to provide data-driven insights and recommendations.


• Communicate complex data findings in a clear and actionable manner to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.


• Stay current with the latest research and advancements in data science and genetic testing.

Requirements:

• Master’s or PhD in biological sciences, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.


• Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis using R or Python.


• Strong knowledge of SQL for data retrieval and management.


• Ability to retrieve and munge data from disparate sources and formats (e.g., SQL, JSON, CSV, XLSX).


• Understanding of business fundamentals such as revenue, profit, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, and cohort analysis.


• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.


• Strong leadership and experience managing technical teams and mentoring and fostering employee growth and development. 


• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.


• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.


• Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.

At BillionToOne, we are proud to offer a combination of (1) competitive base pay, (2) the opportunity for professional growth, and (3) industry leading company benefits (free healthcare options, 401k match, very generous fully paid  parental leave etc.).

For this position, we offer a total compensation package of up to $265,000 per year, including a base pay range of $165,000-$200,000 per year.
