The selectee of this position serves as a computer or electronics engineer in the Digital Flight Systems Section in the Spacecraft Engineering Division of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). This position has responsibilities including hardware description language (HDL) design for field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) and embedded software design for system-on-a-chip (SoC) devices; implementation of processing algorithms on FPGAs and SoCs that may include machine learning, signal processing, and vision processing; and design of circuit card assemblies and electronics boxes for space flight hardware. Looking for recent college graduates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, applicants receiving their bachelor’s degree in the next year, or applicants with work experience. Responsibilities Participation in the design, fabrication, test, and analysis of various electronic circuits, circuit cards, and subsystems for space flight hardware systems. FPGA and SoC design for Xilinx, Intel, and Microchip devices which may include Ultrascale, Ultrascale+, Versal, RTG4, PolarFire, or ProASIC. Performing FPGA and hardware description language (HDL) verification, simulation, synthesis, and static timing analysis. Providing integration and test support. Preparation of documentation including specifications, interface control documents, and white papers. Development of circuit card assemblies using PCB design tools and circuit simulation software. Providing test requirements, plans, and procedures for hardware systems. Qualifications This position requires the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to design with microprocessors and electronic components. Ability to execute and simulate FPGA designs with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog, perform simulation using tools such as Siemens Modelsim/Questa, Xilinx Simulator, Aldec Riviera, etc., and use the associated FPGA development tools to synthesis and place and route designs. Knowledge of computer architectures, both hardware and software. Ability to use schematic capture tools such as OrCAD. Ability to use circuit simulation tools such as PSpice. Knowledge of a scripting/programming language to support hardware design such as MATLAB, Python, C, C++, etc. Who May Apply All United States Citizens Additional Qualifications Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position.
